The Story of The Joue Jolie Ligature
You may look at this ligature and think ‘What’s special about this ligature’.
What’s special about it is this:
Lisa’s former clarinet teacher, Robert Marcellus, former Principal Clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra, use to have his students take a Bonade inverted ligature and cut out the center rail. He firmly believed you needed to have just 2 clear points of pressure on the reed to allow it to vibrate the most freely.
While many have cut their Bonades to achieve this result, this ligature achieves his intent and produces a very beautiful flexible colorful sound.
We hope you enjoy this little ligature as a reminder of the goal we all as clarinetists share- to reflect through the instrument the musical intentions of the composer and to stir the soul of the audience whom we want to connect to and share.
To your highest purpose and best clarinetistry.
