Designed for private lesson teachers, musicians who want to learn more about the care and maintenance of their instruments, and for those exploring becoming a master repair technician as a career option.

This course will teach you all the fundamentals of repair and you will learn how to do a proper Clean, Oil, Adjust service of a Closed hole Flute

Based on four years on Zoom classroom teaching, feedback and surveys, we have refined our approach to learning instrument repair – We now utilise a work and your own pace style of learning. Leveraging the power of Canvas LMS to provide learning at a pace everyone can achieve, allowing our students to watch the video and written content, submit assignments and attend Live Classes, One on One Lessons and Work-alongs as scheduled on the Canvas calendar throughout the course intake.

Level 1 includes: 4 Live Classes, 2 Private Lessons, 4 Work-Alongs.

Live Classes are held on Zoom, where each session will be recorded – These are Masterclass Style

Private lessons you will schedule with your instructor

Work-Along time – Allows you to drop in and work at the same time as our master technicians and chat

The times for these will be available on the Canvas Calendar. Live classes and Private Lessons will typically be on a Saturday 9-4pm CST and/or evenings 6-9pm based on our teacher availability.

Each course is taught by multiple instructors which gives you the opportunity to learn from some of the the industries best master repair technicians.

Our Level One courses take approximately 3 months to complete – you have up to 6 months to participate in the course and submit assignments working towards your certificate. The course content will always be available to you.

From your local hardware store you will need to purchase:

Bench cover (silicone/Neotech mat, towel, cloth)
Web camera/cellphone (1080p) and downward-facing camera mount
Razor Blades – single edge blades
Q-Tips (cotton swabs) – 1 large package
DAP Weldwood Contact Cement – 1 container, with built-in brush inside cap
If contact cement container doesn’t include brush built into cap: flat bristled brush (small soft paintbrush or toothbrush, bristles don’t matter)
Emery cloth – 240 grit (for sanding key corks)
Drumstick or wooden dowel rod (for removing old head cork for replacement)
Cotton pipe cleaners
Cork grease
Credit card / Room key / Popsicle sticks (destroy-able)
Plastic scraper blade
E6000 adhesive – .18 oz mini tubes
JL Smith Pad Juice / 409 All purpose cleaner
Cotton cuticle tips / Toothpicks
Dawn dishsoap
Rubbing alcohol
Paraffin wax
Sandpaper – 400+ grit
Cigarette paper (OCB un-gummed, or any brand with gummed edge cut off)
Sharpie – dual tipped
Denatured alcohol – 1 can

Last but not least, you will need to come with your own instrument to work on – We recommend a flute that is in mostly playable condition and a closed hole flute so you can grow your skills quickly.
