Flute Repair Course Level 1

Description

Designed for private lesson teachers, musicians who want to learn more about the care and maintenance of their instruments, and for those exploring becoming a master repair technician as a career option.

Level 1 Flute Class is held on Saturdays for 90 minutes from 11:00am- 12:30pm Central Time.  Level 1 is a 3 month course. It is being offered twice in 2023.

All classes will be recorded and be made available to you. Following the purchase of the course, we will send you details to register on Zoom for it. Enrollment is limited and when we run out of Level 1 kits this course will be closed for registration.

The course is taught by master technicians and flutist Christina Colston, from The Tuneful Tech.

Flat nose pliers
Screwdriver set: flat head, 2mm tip, & 3-4 mm tip, short length
Screwdriver: flat head, 2mm, medium length
Spring hook
Fine point tweezers

Leak light, 10″
Pin vise and needle spring (needle tool)

Pad slick (pad iron)

Feeler gauge material, silver (.0005” thick) and amber (.001” thick)

Pad cement
Pad shims, assortment of 16 sizes

Sheet cork, multiple thicknesses

(2) Felt disks, red, 11/16”
Felt sheet, white, multiple thicknesses
Flute pads, yellow bladder, .114”/2.9mm thickness in the following diameters:

  • (2) 11.5 mm

From your local hardware store you will need to purchase:

Bench cover (silicone/Neotech mat, towel, cloth)
Web camera/cellphone (1080p, with focus) and downward-facing camera mount
Razor Blades – single edge blades
Q-Tips (cotton swabs) – 1 large package
DAP Weldwood Contact Cement – 1 container, with built-in brush inside cap
If contact cement container doesn’t include brush built into cap: flat bristled brush (small soft paintbrush or toothbrush, bristles don’t matter)
Emery cloth – 240 grit (for sanding key corks)
Drumstick or wooden dowel rod (for removing old head cork for replacement)
Cotton pipe cleaners
Cork grease
Credit card / Room key / Popsicle sticks (destroy-able)
Plastic scraper blade
E6000 adhesive – .18 oz mini tubes
JL Smith Pad Juice / 409 All purpose cleaner
Cotton cuticle tips / Toothpicks
Dawn dishsoap
Rubbing alcohol
Paraffin wax
Sandpaper – 400+ grit
Cigarette paper (OCB un-gummed, or any brand with gummed edge cut off)
Sharpie – dual tipped
Denatured alcohol – 1 can

Last but not least, you will need to come with your own instrument to work on!
